As the fall sports season heads into its final days and the NCAA Volleyball Championship Tournament beginning this week, it seems the perfect time to salute and spotlight a Chico State athlete who has provided the Wildcats with four years of superb play, on-court energy, and countless highlights. Head Coach Cody Hein credits Brooke Fogel with "never failing to raise the level of play at Acker Gym," and since joining the program in 2016, her leadership and commitment has always brought out the best in her teammates. Fogel's career contributions make the senior defensive specialist Wildcat of the Week.
Though her Chico State career came to a close November 21, Fogel leaves with her name prominently featured in the Wildcat record books. Her 1,191 digs are good for sixth place on the 'Cats' career digs list, and her 3.65 digs per set average ranks fifth in the program's 44-year history. Fogel also racked up 76 career aces.
Fogel finished the 2019 season with 82 assists, 17 service aces, and a team-high 360 digs, ranking seventh among all California College Athletic Association (CCAA) players in digs and 10th in digs per set (3.56). Her spirited play was a huge factor in the Wildcats reaching postseason play for the fourth time in the last five years.
Hein provides a final, fitting tribute to the latest in a long line of outstanding Chico State volleyball players: "Brooke's contributions will be felt for years beyond when she graduates. We were extremely fortunate to have had a person like Brooke Fogel in our program."
