While Chico State volleyball opponents have been primarily focusing their attention on Kim Wright, Makaela Keeve, Grace Shepherd, and Bekah Boyle, Kelley Jacome has not-so-quietly emerged as the secret weapon to the Wildcats' attack. The junior from Carlsbad has racked up over 40 kills over her last four matches, and last weekend played a huge role both offensively and defensively for the 'Cats in big road wins over Humboldt State and Sonoma State. Jacome's impressive efforts against the Lumberjacks and Seawolves make her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Jacome piled up 21 kills in the two weekend road matches, posting a .222 hitting percentage. She also was a force at the net, swatting nine blocks to help the Wildcats win back-to-back decisions and move Chico State into a tie with Stanislaus State for second place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) North Division.
Friday against Humboldt State, Jacome recorded a season-high 12 kills while adding seven blocks as the Wildcats topped the Lumberjacks in five sets. Jacome was just as effective the following night, flooring nine kills and logging a pair of solo blocks in Chico State's four-set win over Sonoma State.
Jacome's productive weekend gives her 103 kills in 2019, marking the third straight season she has registered triple-digit kills.
Jacome and the Wildcats play their final home matches of the season this week, hosting San Francisco State Wednesday and Stanislaus State Saturday at Acker Gym. Â Â
