Early in the season, Amanda Metzger established herself as a key piece of the Chico State softball team's defensive alignment. But up until last week's series against Humboldt State and Sonoma State, the freshman outfielder had been to the plate just four times in the Wildcats' first seven games. Metzger got the chance to consistently swing the bat against both the Lumberjacks and Seawolves, and immediately emerged as yet another productive weapon in the 'Cats' lineup. Metzger's outstanding offensive efforts make the Roseville product the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
Metzger batted a team-high .467 against Humboldt State and Sonoma State, with two of her seven hits resulting in extra bases. She also posted a .600 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage while driving in four runs to help the No. 6 Wildcats take three out of four in both series to improve to 12-3 overall and 10-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Â
Metzger picked up the first two hits of her Wildcats career in game two of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Lumberjacks, then went 5-for-12 in Chico State's weekend set against the Seawolves. She delivered a pair of hits and two RBI in the Wildcats' 8-6 win in game one of Saturday's twin bill, which led to another doubleheader sweep.
Â
Metzger is now batting .368 on the year as the Wildcats travel to Southern California this Friday and Saturday for a four-game series against Cal State San Marcos.
