Chico State sophomore Kevin Warren made a great first impression. Playing in front of the home fans for the first time in his Chico State career last week, Warren averaged 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, 1.5 blocks, and a steal per game while leading the Wildcats to a pair of lopsided victories in their first two games of the season at Acker Gym.
The guard, who transferred from Cal State Monterey Bay before redshirting last season, earned Wildcat of the Week honors in the process.
Warren scored a team-high 13 points, chipped in seven rebounds, dished out two assists, and logged a block and steal in the Wildcats' 80-53 win against Stanislaus State Thursday.
Saturday, Warren racked up 13 points, three rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots, and a steal in the Wildcats' 59-45 victory against Cal State East Bay, helping to hand the Pioneers their first conference loss of the season.
Warren played an instrumental role in the Wildcats' impressive defensive efforts. He played a team-high 31 minutes Thursday, helping to limit Stanislaus State to 53 points, their fewest since November of 2017. During his team-high 33 minutes Saturday, Warren helped the Wildcats hold Cal State East Bay to 15 first-half points and 45 in the game, in both cases their lowest totals since December of 2017.
Warren and the Wildcats are in Arcata Saturday for their final game prior to the holiday break. The 'Cats take on Humboldt State beginning at 5:30 p.m.
