Chico State striker Jeremiah Egujie scored the match-winning goal in Friday’s 1-0 victory over arch rival Sonoma State and scored again in the Wildcats’ 2-0 win against Humboldt State on Sunday to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
The Hawthorne High School product’s seventh and eighth goals of the season helped the Wildcats improve to 9-3-1 overall and 6-2-0 in the CCAA.
Egujie finished the weekend with seven shots, including four that were on target.
None was more important than Friday’s match winner against Sonoma State. Esten Schroeder played Egujie into space down the left flank. With just one man to beat, the senior did the rest. Egujie took two touches toward the middle of the pitch and then played the ball back through his legs to his left foot and hammered a shot from 15 yards inside the near post.
Egujie leads the CCAA and ranks eighth in the nation with four game-winning goals.
His goal Sunday doubled Chico State’s lead to its final margin of 2-0.
Joshua Belda connected with Egujie on a throw in near the corner flag. Egujie snuck around his defender to take the pass just outside the top left corner of the six-yard box. He spun toward the end line around the first defender, cut back up field to beat a second, and then unleashed a blast from close range over the right leg of the sprawling keeper.
