Gillian Heydorff, the lone senior on the Chico State volleyball career, wrapped up her collegiate playing days in style last weekend, racking up 35 kills, 40 digs, four assists, two service aces and three blocks. As a result, she has earned another Wildcat of the Week honor.
The Wildcats split their final two regular season matches, and despite 23 wins, including a two-match sweep of San Francisco State and a victory at Sonoma State, they were left out of the NCAA Tournament, denying Heydorff of her fourth straight tournament berth.
Friday against Cal State Dominguez Hills, Heydorff collected 20 kills (posting a .340 attack percentage) and 22 digs in Chico State’s four- set victory over the Toros; she also delivered a service ace to set a new Wildcat record for career aces, breaking current assistant coach Jamie Houle's mark.
In Saturday’s four-set loss to Cal State L.A., Heydorff registered 15 kills and 18 digs along with another service ace and a solo block. She leaves the program with her name prominently featured in the Chico State record books – besides being the all-time aces leader, Heydorff ranks second in career kills (1,204), second in attack attempts (3,480), third in digs (1,057), and seventh in solo blocks (42).
