If there's a way to contribute to the success of the Chico State softball team, Kristin Worley has proven she has the will to find it. During the season-opening Desert Stinger Classic, she was productive at the plate, a terror on the base paths, and came through with several defensive gems in center field. Worley's efforts not only helped the 'Cats win top honors in the 28-team tournament, it made the Buena Park product the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
Worley hit safely in all five Desert Stinger Classic contests, batting .500 (7-for-14) and posting a .533 on-base percentage, while also scoring seven runs and stealing five bases in as many attempts.
Â
Friday Worley scored twice and stole a base in the Wildcats' win against Eastern Washington, then doubled and swiped a bag in a 4-0 victory over Academy of Art. Worley made a pair of diving catches in center Saturday to help the 'Cats top Azusa Pacific, and finished the day with two hits and two steals against Western Washington. In Sunday's Desert Stinger finale, Worley went 2-for-2 and scored twice in a 13-2 thumping of Concordia (Oregon).
Â
Though she's played just a little more than one season at Chico State, Worley has 39 career steals, and is tied for eighth on the Wildcats' all-time stolen base list.
Â
Worley and the Wildcats are in Southern California this weekend to open up California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play with a four-game series against Cal State San Bernardino.
