There are many reasons why the Chico State women's basketball team is in the thick of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) playoff race. One in particular is the consistently productive play of Madison Wong. Since being added to the starting lineup on December 9, the Wildcats have won five of seven decisions, with Wong averaging nearly seven points, five assists and four rebounds a game during that stretch.
Wong was once again a standout in road tilts against Cal State San Marcos and UC San Diego, earning the Elk Grove product Wildcat of the Week honors for the third time this season.
Wong was the 'Cats' leading scorer during the weekend sojourn to Southern California, averaging 13 points a game while doling out nine assists, grabbing seven rebounds and posting four steals to move Chico State to 8-6 overall and 6-4 in CCAA play.
Friday Wong was instrumental in the Wildcats' 71-66 win over Cal State San Marcos, matching her season high with 14 points. Her 3-pointer midway through the fourth quarter and five free throws down the stretch helped cement the 'Cats' fourth straight victory.
Against UC San Diego on Saturday, Wong was 4-for-9 from the field and drained a pair of 3-pointers to score a team-high 12 points. She also contributed three assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Wong and the Wildcats return home this week to face CCAA foes Cal State San Bernardino Thursday and Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday.
