The Chico State women's cross country team has relied heavily on seniors Hannah Dorman and Alex Burkhart this season. But they've also benefitted greatly from the consistency of redshirt freshman Alexandria Tucker.Â
Â
Tucker scored for the Wildcats for the fourth straight outing at Saturday's California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships, finishing ninth overall to help lead Chico State to its 10th straight CCAA title and earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
Â
As the first to meet the award's criteria to cross the finish line, Tucker also took home CCAA Newcomer of the Year accolades. She is the sixth Wildcat to have earned the award, joining current teammates Kayden Carpenter and Haley Kroll, and graduated Wildcats Ayla Granados, Michelle J. Johnson, and Jonah Weeks.
Â
Tucker also earned All-CCAA honors for finishing among the top 15 in the race.
Â
The redshirt freshman from San Ramon's Dougherty Valley High School posted her personal-best six-kilometer cross country time, 21:34.2, and was the first freshman across the line by more than 16 seconds.
Â
Tucker and the Wildcats will take this weekend off before travling to Billings, Montana, for the NCAA Championship West Regional on Nov. 4. The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 3 in the West Region and No. 6 in the nation. The top three teams from the West Regional will earn automatic berths into the NCAA Championships, where the Wildcats have finished fourth in each of the past two seasons.
