Chico State’s Will Reyes makes a habit out of blowing away the competition. His victory at Saturday’s Capital Cross Challenge was his fifth in eight collegiate cross country races with the Wildcats.
 
But Saturday’s was extra special. And that’s why he’s the latest Wildcat of the Week.
 
Reyes gapped his nearest competitor by nearly 16 seconds in a race that featured 16 Division I programs, including NCAA West Region top-15 squads Arizona State and California, and NCAA Division II No. 25 California Baptist. His 8k time of 23:29.8 was more than a minute faster than last year’s winner at Haggin Oaks Golf Course in Sacramento.
 
Reyes’ victory helped the Wildcats win in dominating fashion, taking the unofficial title (all divisions included) over Arizona State 29-84. Once the results were broken down between Division Is and non-Division Is, Chico State was a 24-60 winner over California Baptist (though D-I Richmond was somehow tabulated in there as well).
 
Reyes and the rest of the Chico State men’s cross country team will be in La Jolla Saturday competing in the Triton Invitational, taking place on the UC San Diego campus.
