McCall Habermehl had one heck of a run in 2015. The junior from Roseville wrapped up her cross country campaign Saturday at the NCAA Championships with a 50th-place finish, helping lead the Wildcats to a fourth-place podium performance in Joplin, Missouri, and earning Wildcat of the Week honors.
Â
Habermehl passed 26 runners over the final half of the six-kilometer race, picking up valuable points along the way and finishing second among Chico State's runners just one season after missing the National Championships with the flu.
Â
The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Athlete of the Year, Habermehl won the CCAA title, and two weeks later, earned All-West Region accolades after her 14th-place finish at the NCAA West Regional Championships.
Â
Saturday's successful finish marked a wonderful way to cap it all off.
Â
She covered the cold and windy course in 21:39.0, finishing just ahead of teammates Alex Burkhart and Quetta Peinado.
Â
After a brief break, Habermehl will transition to the track where she boasts the fifth fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time in program history and hopes to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
