There's something about February 21 that brings out the slugger in Courtney Brown. The Chico State softball team's sure-handed third baseman smacked her first home run as a Wildcat back on Feb. 21, 2014. Exactly a year to the day she delivered the biggest bomb of her collegiate career. Brown's grand slam kick-started a doubleheader sweep of Cal State East Bay and provided an exclamation point to a very productive four-game set. Her contributions to Chico State's series victory over the Pioneers make Brown the latest Wildcat of the Week.

Brown appeared in three games during the series, batting .364 (4-for-11) with a pair of extra-base hits and five RBI. The Yucaipa native posted an impressive .737 slugging percentage and fielded flawlessly at the hot corner to help the Wildcats improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.

After going 1-for-4 in Friday's series opener, Brown was on fire in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader vs. East Bay, ripping a double early in the contest before snapping a 5-all tie with a bases-loaded blast that easily cleared the left field fence. The 'Cats went on to win the game 12-5. With Brown providing an RBI single in the nightcap, Chico State topped the Pioneers 9-5 to complete the doubleheader sweep.  

Brown is tied for the team lead in home runs (2) and is third in RBI (7) through the first eight games of the season.

The Wildcats host doubleheaders against San Francisco State this Friday and Saturday.
