Sprinter Amilia Santos has been a consistent contributor to the Chico State women’s track & field team for several years, but if her performance at last Saturday’s Kim Duyst Invitational is any indication, 2014 could turn out to be a truly memorable season. The senior from San Diego was a bona-fide standout, winning two events and placing third in another at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium. Santo’s early season success has also earned Wildcat of the Week honors.
Santos took top honors in the Kim Duyst Invitational’s 100-meter dash, clocking in at 12:58 seconds. It currently stands as the 10th-fastest time by a Division II sprinter so far this season.
Santos also notched the nation’s fifth-fastest Division II time in the 200-meter dash, finishing third Saturday at 26.26 seconds.
Santos wrapped up her outstanding day as part of the winning Wildcat 4x100-meter relay team, combining with Ashley Jones, Aja Erskine and Kasey Barnett to take first place with a time of 47.79 seconds – the fourth-best time in the country among D-II relay teams.
Santos and the Chico State women’s track & field team are back in action this Saturday, traveling to Arcata to compete in the Humboldt State Dual Meet.
