Brad Lohse had little time to prepare for his first collegiate start. He didn’t need it. The Wildcat of the Week was summoned from the bullpen when scheduled starter Ryan O’Shea felt discomfort while warming on the mound prior to the bottom of the first. He then proceeded to blow away UC San Diego hitters for six innings in a 3-1 victory.
 
Lohse allowed only four hits in six scoreless frames. He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter in earning his first victory in a Chico State uniform.
 
The sophomore transfer from Shasta Community College and cousin of Major Leaguer Kyle Lohse, has not allowed a run in two appearances spanning eight innings this season.
 
Lohse and the Wildcats (6-3 and ranked No. 21 in the nation) will be back at home this weekend for a four-game series against Academy of Art. The series begins Friday at 2 p.m., continues with a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m. and concludes with a single game Sunday at 11 a.m.
