If your Wildcat career has to come to an end, you might as well leave a lasting impression at the end. Chico State women’s track & field thrower Brooke Shepard did just that at the CCAA Track & Field Championships, winning the shot put competition while earning a total of 15 team points to help the ’Cats capture the conference crown for the fourth straight year. Shepard’s big contribution to Chico State’s victory in Turlock has earned the senior from Arroyo Grande Wildcat of the Week honors.

In Friday’s second day of competition at the CCAA Track & Field Championships, Shepard finished atop the 15-person field in the shot put with a heave of 42-feet-06.25, scoring 10 team points for the Wildcats. It was her first All-CCAA effort since finishing third in the discus as a freshman at the 2010 conference meet.

Shepard contributed another five team points to the Wildcat cause on Saturday. Though she just missed a second All-CCAA award, Shepard finished a solid fourth in the discus with a season-best throw of 133-feet-08. Thanks in large part to Shepard’s productive efforts, the Chico State women’s track & field team rolled up a total of 210 points to post a convincing 59.5 victory en route to the conference title.

The CCAA Track & Field Championships was not the only highlight of Shepard’s senior season. In April, she set a new personal record in the shot put while posting the eighth-longest throw (44-feet-01.50) in Chico State history at the Woody Wilson Classic in Davis.
