As only one of five returners from last season’s Chico State softball team, Emily McEnaney is being counted on to bring experience and the offense she flashed during her freshman year to the 2013 edition of the Wildcats. She has proven to be up to the challenge, especially last weekend against Cal State Stanislaus – McEnaney was a force at the plate, collecting eight hits and driving in seven runs to help the ’Cats split their four-game road series with the Warriors. The sophomore third baseman’s offensive display has earned McEnaney Wildcat of the Week honors.
McEnaney batted an even .500 in the series, picking up hits in eight of her last 11 at-bats, reaching base nine times and scoring three runs. In the field, McEnaney was flawless, handling all 12 chances at the hot corner without an error.
After a quiet series opener Friday, McEnaney went 2-for-4 in the second game of the doubleheader, driving in four runs and scoring twice as the Wildcats topped Stanislaus 10-6. She picked up where she left off Saturday, picking up two hits in four trips in the first game of the twinbill, and then capped off the day with a perfect 4-for-4 performance in the nightcap, ripping a double and collecting three RBI.
McEnaney leads the Wildcats with 25 hits and a .368 batting average. She has also knocked in 16 runs in just 68 at-bats this season.
McEnaney and the Wildcats will be at University Softball Field this Friday and Saturday for a four-game series against Cal State East Bay.
