Chico State junior Nick Baker blew Cal State Dominguez Hills away during seven shutout innings Sunday in Carson to earn Wildcat of the Week honors. Baker (1-0) retired the first 13 batters he faced – four via strikeout. He went seven strong, striking out seven and surrendering just three singles and no walks. The former Dodgers draft pick faced just one over the minimum in improving to 15-3 in two-plus seasons with the Wildcats. 

Through his first 12 innings of the season, Baker has struck out 16 while allowing just a single run on five hits and two walks.

The junior’s career winning percentage of .833 is the third highest in school history among those with 18 or more decisions. And the Wildcats are 18-4 in his 22 collegiate starts.

Baker and the Wildcats play their home opener Wednesday at 2:30 against Northwest Nazarene University to start a four-game series. They'll play a doubleheader Thursday at noon and a single game Friday at 2:30.
