The Chico State women’s basketball team was coming off a tough road loss against Humboldt State, and desperately needed a win last Monday against Sonoma State to stay ranked among the conference leaders. Several Wildcats stepped up to help down the Seawolves 62-56, but none more so than Jazmine Miller. The sophomore guard contributed in several ways during the ’Cats victory, including scoring in double figures for the seventh time this season. Her solid all-around performance has earned the Fairfield native Wildcat of the Week honors.
Miller posted 15 points against Sonoma State, tying her career best with three 3-pointers. She also hauled in a team-high seven rebounds, dished out four assists, grabbed four steals, and was 6-for-8 at the free throw line – including hitting three clutch charity tosses in the final 25 seconds – to give Chico State the six point victory and improve to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play.
Miller enters the new year ranked second on the team and among the conference leaders in scoring, averaging 12.2 points a game. She tops the Wildcats with 15 3-pointers, has nabbed a team-high 21 steals and is shooting a CCAA-best 85.3 percent from the free throw line.
Miller and the Wildcats are back in action Monday, Jan. 2, returning home for a CCAA showdown with Cal State Stanislaus.
