The Chico State men’s basketball team is off to a 4-0 start, thanks in no small part to the biggest Wildcat on the floor. Junior center Jason Conrad has been instrumental in helping the ’Cats win their first four contests for the second year in a row, and on Tuesday, Nov. 22, turned in arguably his best game ever as a Wildcat in a 73-49 trouncing of Menlo College. The solid performance by the seven-footer from Gilroy has earned Conrad Wildcat of the Week honors.
In just 16 minutes of action against Menlo, Conrad scored a career-high 11 points, highlighted by a thunderous dunk with 14 minutes to play in the second half that extended Chico State’s lead to 45-17. Conrad hit all five of his free throw attempts while also grabbing six rebounds, registering two blocks and adding one steal as the Wildcats cruised to a 24-point victory over the Oaks.
Entering play this week, Conrad is averaging 6.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and one block a game – all single-season career highs.
Chico State is back in action Thursday, traveling to the Bay Area to take on San Francisco State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) contest. The Wildcats will be in southern California Saturday to battle Cal Poly Pomona.
