A casual look at the Chico State women’s track & field record book will see the name Savannah Bailey listed among the program’s all-time top 10 in several sprinting events. As impressive as those accomplishments are, the junior from Yuba City enjoyed arguably the best single day of her Chico State running career Saturday at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa. She excelled in no less than four events, notching two NCAA Provisional marks and rearranging the Wildcat record book not once, but twice. Bailey’s high-speed success in Southern California makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week.

Bailey started the day by teaming with Danielle Bacon, Jessica James, and Chloe Taylor to finish 13th overall in the Bryan Clay Invitational’s 4x100-meter relay, posting the quartet’s season-best time of 47.66 seconds. She then placed third in her heat and 25th out of a field of 88 in the 400-meter dash, with her season-best time of 55.62 seconds earning an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark.

Bailey recorded a 44th place finish and a personal best time in the 200-meter dash, with her mark of 24.70 seconds entering the Chico State record books as the ninth-fastest 200 in program history. Bailey, along with Bacon, Taylor, and Taylor Lee, wrapped up the day by running the second-fastest 4x400-relay in Wildcat women’s track & field history—the foursome’s time of 3:47.13 earning another NCAA Provisional qualifying mark while coming within .09 seconds of setting a new school record in the event.

Bailey and the Chico State women’s track & field team will be home this weekend in its final tune-up before the CCAA Championships, competing in the Chico Invitational at University Stadium.
