Following a solid sophomore season, Chico State men’s golfer Tyler Ashman entered the 2022–23 campaign ready to take his game to the next level. Based on his performance during the Wildcats’ first nine tournaments, Ashman’s mission has been accomplished in a most impressive fashion. At the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational in Turlock, the junior from Clovis helped lead the ’Cats to a third place team finish while notching the latest in a series of top 10 individual tournament scores. Ashman’s productive play on the links makes him the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Ashman carded a three-round score of 1-over par 217, finishing the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational in sixth place in the 96-player field. It marked his third consecutive top 10 place tournament finish and fifth of the season.
Ashman began the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational Monday by dropping in five opening-round birdies on the way to carding a 3-under par 69. In the day’s second round action, Ashman added three more birdies while posting a pair of eagles for another 3-under 69, and entered Tuesday’s final 18 with a 36-hole score of 6-under 138—one shot ahead of the field.
Ashman cooled off a bit in the final round, but his score of 79 was still good enough to keep him among the tournament leaders.
Ashman is averaging a team-best 72.04 strokes per round for the season, and is currently installed as No. 41 in the Golfstat Division II individual rankings.
Ashman and the rest of the Chico State men’s golf team will now prepare for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships, taking place April 17–18 at the Victoria Club in Riverside.
