After earning All-CCAA and All-West Region honors last spring, Chico State men’s track & field hurdler Parker Williams knew he had a lot to live up to entering the 2023 season. As evidenced at Saturday’s Chico Invitational, the sophomore is not letting anything—including the rain that drenched University Stadium nearly the entire day—keep him from delivering winning results. Taking top honors in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles, and contributing to the ’Cats’ first place showing in the 4x400-meter relay makes Williams the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
Williams started the rainy day by finishing first in the 110-meter hurdle preliminaries with a time of 14.98 seconds. In the finals, he was again the first to cross the finish line, this time stopping the clock at 14.94 seconds. In the 400-meter hurdles, Williams clocked in at 54.89 seconds to take the top of the podium.Â
Â
As the sun finally made its lone appearance of the day, Williams concluded the Wildcat Invitational by teaming with Bryan Payne, Demetre Coffey, and Ty Thomson to win the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:18.31.
Â
Williams currently ranks fifth among all Division II athletes this season in the 400-meter hurdles (top time: 53.75 seconds), and sixth nationwide in the 110-meter hurdles (14.59 seconds).
