The Chico State women’s basketball team has not lost in nearly a month. And during the course of the Wildcats’ current seven-game winning streak, several players have stepped up to provide timely, clutch performances. The ’Cats’ latest hardwood hero is junior guard Brandy Huffhines, who racked up baskets from all areas of the floor—and especially from behind the 3-point arc. Her sensational shooting, leading to two more Chico State “W’s,” makes Huffhines the latest Wildcat of the Week.

Huffhines flashed the hot shooting hand in each of Chico State’s victories against Sonoma State and Cal Poly Humboldt, helping the Wildcats raise their season record to 16-6 and maintain a share of third place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with a 12-4 conference mark.

Huffhines averaged 19 points over the two contests, shooting a combined 66.7 percent (12-for-18) from the field, and a sizzling 72.7 percent (8-for-11) from beyond the 3-point arc. The junior guard also contributed five rebounds, three assists, and one steal to the ’Cats’ attack.

Thursday against Sonoma State, Huffhines connected for three 3-pointers and scored 15 points in a 71-67 win over the Seawolves. On Saturday versus Cal Poly Humboldt, Huffhines hit eight of her 11 shots—five from 3-point land—and scored a season-high 23 as the Wildcats topped the Lumberjacks 79-66.

Huffhines is Chico State’s leading scorer, averaging 12.1 points a game, and her team-high 42 3-pointers ranks sixth among all CCAA players.

Huffhines and the Wildcats are on the road this week for two huge conference clashes in Southern California. Thursday night the ’Cats take on Cal State San Marcos, then on Saturday afternoon square off with Cal State LA.
