The road to Chico has been a long one for Brandy Huffhines. The Wildcat women’s basketball team’s talented guard began her college career with two solid seasons at Sacramento City College, then made stops at Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State, only to see limited action due to injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic. The ’Cats are certainly glad she made her way back to the North State. The Sacramento native’s big contributions to a pair of Chico State wins makes Huffhines the latest Wildcat of the Week. Â
Â
Huffhines averaged 12 points a game in victories over Holy Names and Stanislaus State, shooting 60 percent (9-for-15) from the field and 62.5 percent (5-for-8) from behind the 3-point arc. Huffhines added five rebounds, four assists and three steals to help the Wildcats extend their winning streak to three straight and improve to 4-2 on the season.
Â
Tuesday against Holy Names, Huffhines hit a pair of treys on the way to a team-high 13 points in Chico State’s 71-52 victory over the Hawks. She followed up Saturday with three 3-pointers to score 11 points as the Wildcats downed Stanislaus State 85-70.
Â
Huffhines has scored in double figures in each of her last five contests, and is averaging 10.2 points a game. She leads the ’Cats in shooting percentage (46.5 percent) and 3-point shooting percentage (47.4 percent), and is tied for the team lead with nine 3-pointers on the season.
Â
Huffhines and the Wildcats are back in action this week with conference contests against Cal State LA Thursday and Cal State San Marcos on Saturday.
