NEW YORK — Chico State soccer alum and 1998 Chico State Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Ted Howard was promoted to acting general secretary of the CONCACAF, soccer's regional governing body on Monday.

Howard, stil an avid supporter of the Chico State men's soccer program, was a member of the University's original varsity soccer team that started in 1965. He played three years until he completed his eligibility in 1967. He also served as assistant soccer coach from 1968-70, helping lead the Wildcats to two Western Regional Championships. He also played freshman basketball for the Wildcats during the 1963-64 season.
Howard was instrumental in the promotion of Chico State Athletics through his nightly Spotlight on Campus Sports show on KHSL Radio from 1965-1967 and his work as Assistant Sports Information Director from 1968-1971. He was also he founder of the first high school soccer league in the Chico, Durham and Yuba City areas.
