You probably already knew that Mike Janjigian is a hard worker on the pitch. The sizeable 6-foot-3 sophomore defender played every minute of every match this season, helping the Chico State men’s soccer team’s defense limit opponents to just 17 goals during a 13-4-4 season. Apparently, Jigs (as his teammates know him) goes big in the classroom as well. He was recently named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-West Region Team honorable mention.
The lone California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) athlete to make the team, Janjigian also contributed a goal and an assist while helping lead the Wildcats to their second straight trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament and CCAA North Division title. The civil engineering major helped the Wildcats post 11 shutouts, the most since the 1978 squad set the school record with 12.
