WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – For the third straight year, the number of Chico State athletes honored by the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) for their academic achievements has risen. Last week, the conference released its annual list of All-Academic award winners, with 41 Wildcats included among 451 student-athletes cited for their classroom accomplishments for the 2010-11 academic year.
The total number of Wildcats winning CCAA All-Academic awards was three better than the 38 named to the conference’s 2009-10 list, and four more than the 37 honored in 2007-08 and 2008-09. Twenty-one of the 41 Chico State athletes named have won multiple CCAA All-Academic honors, with three Wildcat women’s distance runners – Anna Eicholtz, Kara Lubieniecki and Shannon Rich – winning the award for the fourth straight year.
Varsity student-athletes who participated in one of the 13 CCAA-sponsored sports, totaled a minimum of 24 semester or 36 quarter units and maintained a 3.40 or higher grade point average for the 2010-11 academic year were eligible for All-Academic recognition.
