CHICO – The Chico State women’s golf team has provided plenty of positives so far this season, and Head Coach Kathy Dais is hoping that a strong finish to the fall portion of the 2011-12 campaign will result in ample momentum heading into the spring part of the schedule. The ’Cats will try to deliver that solid performance this Monday and Tuesday during the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, taking place at the Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club.
The event is the first action for the Wildcats since playing back-to-back tournaments earlier this month in Washington. Chico State began its trip to the Pacific Northwest with a fourth place finish in the St. Martin’s Invitational Oct. 7-8, followed by a 10th place showing at the Western Washington-hosted Viking Invitational in Bellingham Oct. 10-11.
For the Sonoma State Invitational, Dais will stay with the lineup she utilized in the Washington tourneys, with Shelby Hooper, Katie Canadas, Sarah McComish, Alex Bush and Heather Fegley teeing it up for the Wildcats. Last season, Chico State came in eighth at the Sonoma State Invitational, with Hooper posting the team’s best score and a top 30 finish with a three-round total of 27-over par 243.
Four California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) schools will be competing in the Sonoma State Invitational. In addition to Chico State, Cal State East Bay, No. 14 Cal State Monterey Bay, and the host school, No. 20 Sonoma State, will be among the field. No. 8 Western Washington and Academy of Art will also be participating.
