AUSTIN, Texas – The Chico State women’s golf team wrapped up its first event of the spring season Tuesday, dropping from a share of 10th place in opening round action to a tie for 13th in the two-day St. Edward’s Invitational at Grey Rock Golf Course in Austin, Texas. After shooting a collective 59-over par 343 in Monday’s first round, the Wildcats carded a 65-over 349 for a 36-hole total of 124-over 692, good for a share of 13th place with St. Mary’s University (TX) in the 17-school tournament field.
Erin Sears enjoyed the most individual success of any Chico State player, carding back-to-back rounds of 12-over par 83 to finish at 24-over 166 and tied for 30th place among the 89 golfers participating in the St. Edward’s Invitational. Shelby Hooper carded the lowest individual round among the Wildcats, firing an 8-over par 79 in Monday’s opening round, but followed up Tuesday with a 20-over 91 to finish in a tie for 41st place with a 28-over 170.
Megan Chang shot a 17-over par 88 on Monday for the Wildcats, but rebounded nicely Tuesday with a 12-over 83 for a 36-hole total of 29-over 171, good for a share of 46th place. Whitney Vau carded rounds of 22-over 93 on Monday and 21-over 92 Tuesday to finish at 43-over 185 and a share of 72nd place. Katie Canadas shot back-to-back rounds of 23-over par 94 to finish in a tie for 79th place at 46-over 188.
Tarleton State (TX), the No. 7 ranked school in the country, won the St. Edward’s Invitational with a 36-hole team score of 52-over par 620. Katie Mundy of Western Texas Community College carded the tournament’s best individual score with a two-round total of 6-over par 148.

The Wildcat women’s golf team is back in action next Monday and Tuesday, taking part in the Cal State East Bay Invitational at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo.
