STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's basketball team learned Saturday morning that it opens the season ranked No. 2 in the nation. That afternoon, the Cardinal showed why in a 123-39 victory over Chico State in the exhibition opener for both teams.
Renee Goldoff scored six points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Wildcats in their first game under new Head Coach Brian Fogel. Annelise Miller led Chico State with six rebounds in just 14 minutes of action. Taylor Lydon finished with five points, while Christine Vest, Melissa Richardson, Molly Collins, and Ashley Washington chipped in four points each.
Stanford shot 60-percent from the floor and outrebounded Chico State 56-24.
The Wildcats will play another exhibition game at Cal on Nov. 5. They open the regular season at home against Alaska Fairbanks on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
Chico State finished last season with a 28-6 overall record, including a 17-3 conference mark. The Wildcats, who earned the top-seed in the CCAA Tournament, defeated UC San Diego, 69-63, to claim the conference title and earned the league’s automatic berth to the Division II NCAA Tournament. It was Chico State’s sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
