Cross Country teams dominate in Oregon

SALEM, Ore. - Scott Bauhs, winning his second individual title in as many tries this season, led the Chico State men’s cross country to a 33-point team total and an easy team victory at the 34th Annual Charles Bowles Invitational cross county meet on Saturday at Bush's Pasture Park. In the women’s race, Tori Tyler again finished as the top Wildcat competitor, taking fifth overall and leading the squad to a first-place team finish with a total of 50 points.

The women placed all five scorers in the top 16 overall for a 140 advantage over second-place Lewis-Clark (190 points). Claremont Mudd-Scripps and Whiman tied for third at 215 and host Willamette University (223) earned fifth in the 28-team field.

Tyler completed the 5k course in 17:57.60 and Alia Gray was the next Wildcat across the line in eighth at 18:09.35. Kara Lubieniecki (18:11.75) finished tenth and Shannon McVannell (18:12.19) was right behind at 11th overall. Hannah Dillard (18:35.43) rounded out the scoring with her 16th-place finish among the 288 runners.

Bauhs (24:06.32) was impressive in the men’s 8k, beating his nearest competition by 40 seconds. Brendan Scanlon (24:57.90) came in fifth while Jordan Fairley (25:10.39) and Angle Marquez (25:11.42) took the seven and eight spots, respectively. Thomas Whitcomb (25:18.96) finished 12th among the 301 runners to complete the 33-point team total.

Taking second to Chico State was Southern Oregon (127 points), followed by Lewis-Clark (147), College of Idaho (167), and Concordia-Oregon (171) in fifth place.
