Wildcats fourth in current Directors' Cup standings

After the completion of six fall NCAA championships, the Chico State department of athletics is currently fourth in the nation in the U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup standings. The Directors’ Cup, compiled by the National Association of College Directors of Athletics, is designed to recognize the top programs among the over 280 schools that participate in NCAA Division II athletics.

Chico State sent four of the University’s five fall sports into the postseason, resulting in a total of 202 points. Women’s cross country picked up 80 points for its fourth-place national finish and men’s cross country, finishing sixth added another 72 points, finishing sixth. Women’s soccer and volleyball both earned berths in their respective NCAA Championships, earning 25 points apiece.

Grand Valley State sits atop the Directors’ Cup standings with 321 points, followed by Tampa (316) and Massachusetts Lowell (251). Trailing Chico State and rounding out the top five is Dowling in New York with 193 points.

Other CCAA schools in the standings include Cal State L.A. (7th, 189 points), UC San Diego (11th, 166 points) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (33rd, 103 points).

The Wildcats finished 17th in last year’s final Directors’ Cup standings and the three years prior earned top-ten finishes – 8th in 2005-06, 3rd in 2004-05, and 5th in 2003-04.
