Heather Fegley, a mainstay in Chico State women’s golf for well over a decade, is in her seventh year as Wildcats’ head coach.

In eight tournaments during the 2022–23 season, Fegley led the Wildcats to top five team finishes at the February 20, 2023 Bay Area Invitational and April 3–4, 2023 Sonoma State Spring Invitational. Chico State standout Taylor Stewart led the ’Cats with a 77.07 strokes per round average to earn All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) honors.

While the COVID-19 pandemic kept the ’Cats off the links during the 2020–21 season, Fegley was able to put together a competitive Chico State squad in 2021–22, appearing in 11 tournaments overall and notching a third place team finish at the February 21–22, 2022 Bay Area Invitational. The Wildcats also distinguished themselves in the classroom, with Stewart, Natalie Kinney, Kelsey Blaylock, and Kelly More named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team.

Fegley piloted the ’Cats to one top five finish in the abbreviated 2019–20 season. Stewart enjoyed an outstanding freshman season, earning an All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Honorable Mention. Chico State finished No. 84 in the final Golfstat Division II rankings.

Fegley led the Wildcats to four top five tournament finishes in 2018–19. Senior Brittany O’Bryant averaged a team-best 77.9 strokes per round, posted six top 20 tournament finishes, and earned First Team All-CCAA honors. As a team, Chico State earned the No. 73 slot on Golfstats’ final 2018–19 rankings.

Named head coach in August, 2017, Fegley led the Wildcats to five top 10 regular season tournament finishes and a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship Tournament appearance in her first season at the helm, finishing No. 32 in the 2017–18 Golfstat D-II rankings.

Prior to assuming the head coach’s role, Fegley spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Chico State women’s golf team. Fegley aided head coach Nick Green in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, running workouts and practices, skill instruction, and travel. She helped lead the Wildcats to three of the most successful seasons in the history of the program, including 17 top five tournament finishes and two trips to the NCAA Championship Tournament.

As a player, Fegley participated in 35 events for the Wildcats over four seasons (2010–14) and amassed nine top 20 finishes. In 2013–14, she served as team captain and helped lead Chico State to its first NCAA Super Regional berth in eight seasons.

Fegley was also a standout in the classroom, twice earning Dean’s List distinction and representing the Department of Sociology at the Dean’s Cup Academic Competition.

Prior to her playing days at Chico State, Fegley starred at Chico’s Pleasant Valley High School, leading the Vikings to three Eastern Athletic League and Northern Section championships from 2005–07. She was the Eastern Athletic League individual champion in 2006 and 2007.

Fegley has also been active sharing her love of golf with the local community for over well over a decade as a volunteer coach for the Butte County Special Olympics Golf Program.

Fegley logged several years serving as a pro shop assistant and marketing and social media manager at Butte Creek Country Club.

Fegley is the co-founder of the Chico Area Junior Golf Association, which she helped to launch in December, 2016.

Fegley received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Chico State in 2014.
