Wildcats score solid second round, finish sixth at San Marcos Fall Classic

Brittany O’Bryant ties for 19th overall in Chico State’s final tournament of the fall

VALLEY CENTER, Calif.—The Chico State women's golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2018–19 season in fine form Tuesday, as the 'Cats combined to shoot a 25-over par 313 in the final round of the Cal State San Marcos Fall Classic. The solid showing—two strokes better than Monday's opening round—gave the Wildcats a 36-hole score of 52-over 628 and a sixth place tournament finish at Woods Valley Golf Club in Valley Center.

Tuesday with a 4-over par 76.
Three Chico State golfers posted sub-80 rounds Tuesday, with two Wildcats finishing the tournament ranked in the top 25.
 
Brittany O'Bryant notched a birdie and parred 14 of the other 17 holes she played Tuesday to card a 5-over par 77. Her sixth straight sub-80 round of the season earned the senior a share of 19th place in the 66-player field with a total score of 11-over 155.
 
O'Bryant, who has finished in the top 30 in all of Chico State's four fall tournaments, placed among the top 15 for the second time in 2018–19.
 
Natalie Kinney rebounded from her opening round 81 to card a 4-over par 76 Tuesday, good for a share of 24th place with a 36-hole score of 13-over 157.
 
Claire Brady birdied two of her final four holes on the way to slicing seven strokes off her Monday score, firing a final round 5-over par 77 to finish at 17-over 161 and in a five-way tie for 32nd place overall.
 
After delivering a 78 in Monday's opening round, Olivia Loeffler shot an 11-over par 83 on the final 18. The freshman collected a pair of birdies on the day but stumbled late in the round to also grab a share of 32nd place in the 66-player field.
 
Julia Kalez finished her first career tournament as a Wildcat with an 84 on Tuesday. Her two-round score of 18-over 162 left the freshman tied for 37th place.
 
Host school Cal State San Marcos rolled to a 34-shot victory, winning its own Fall Classic with a team score of 7-under par 569. Simon Fraser was a distant second at 27-over 603, with Sonoma State, Victoria (B.C.), and Point Loma all tying for third place at 35-over 611.
 
First round co-leader Jaime Jacob of Cal State San Marcos shot a 6-under par 66 Tuesday to top the individual leaderboard and win medalist honors with a two-day total of 9-under 135.

The Chico State women's golf team is now idle for the rest of 2018, but will resume play February 4–5 as part of the Point Loma-hosted Sea Lion Invitational, taking place at Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Club in San Diego.
