GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Justin Wiles won individual medalist honors and the 4th-ranked Chico State men's golf team finished second at the Western New Mexico University Fall Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Golf Club at Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
Wiles began the day in a three-way tie for first. The junior All-American fired a 2-under par 70 in the final round to finish in a flat-footed tie with Colorado Christian's Michael Goddard at 8-under. The tie was not broken.

The Chico State team finished 3-under for the tournament, five shots behind two-time defending National Junior College Champion South Mountain Community College. They were the only two programs to finish under par. Cameron finished third at 1-over, followed by Arizona State at 11-over and Cal State San Bernardino at 12-over.
Wiles was a tournament-best 7-under par on the layout's par 4s this week and one of only seven players to play the par 3s under par.
Alistair Docherty collected his 10
th top-10 finish in 13 tournaments dating back to the start of last season, finishing tied for ninth at 3-under par in the 99-player field.
Lee Gearhart carded the Wildcats' best round Tuesday, a 4-under par 68, thanks to five birdies and just one bogey. He finished the tournament at 2-under par and tied for 12
th despite taking an 11 on the par-4 10
th hole in Monday's opening round.
True freshmen David Na and Justin Nuval finished tied for 63
rd and 79
th, respectively, in their first collegiate tournament.
COMPLETE RESULTS Wildcats Head Coach Travis Brown was the head coach at South Mountain from 1999-2007 before taking the job at Chico State. He led that program to the National Junior College Athletic Association national title in 2004. His Cougars teams finishing second in the nation in 2003 and 2007 and won six regional titles in Brown's last seven years as head coach.
