WALNUT CREEK – Turns out that Chico State’s Amir Carraway wasn’t only the Most Valuable Player of last weekend’s Carl’s Jr. Mac Martin Invitational. He was also the MVP of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Carraway has been named the CCAA men's basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 7-13.
A sophomore from Vallejo, Carraway was named the Most Valuable Player of the two-day Carl’s Jr. Mac Martin Invitational after averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds during wins over Alaska Fairbanks and Academy of Art. He connected on 60 percent (9-for-15) of his field goal attempts, including 55.6 percent (5-for-9) from behind the 3-point arc.
His 31 points in the first two games match his 22-game freshman total from last season.
During an 84-73 victory over Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday, Carraway poured in 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while converting two thirds of his field goal attempts. The Wildcats forward ended the weekend with 10 points and one rebound while playing 13 minutes in Chico State's 83-36 win over Academy of Art.
Chico State is next in action on Saturday when it hosts Pacific Union at 7 p.m.
