Chico State garners academic honors from D-II Athletic Directors Association

CLEVELAND – With the fall semester just ahead, Chico State Athletics received one final round of academic accolades for the 2009-10 school year. The Wildcats were among 92 institutions honored by the Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) as recipients of the DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT. The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.

A total of 3,022 student-athletes from around the country are being recognized, including 29 from Chico State. To receive an Academic Achievement Award, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher; have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work; and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.

Chico State student-athletes winning DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards included:

Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country
Dwight Aitkens, Tim Cannon, Joseph Rath, Matt Sloggy and Max Zavala.

Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country
Ashley Britton, Amanda Clifford, Hannah Dillard, Anna Eicholtz, Alia Gray, Jamie Humphreys, Shannon Jordan, Kara Lubieniecki, Sierra Owens, Samantha Racine, Shannon Rich, Jonah Weeks and Skylar Young.

Men’s Soccer
Aren Dawkins and Adam Raish.     

Women’s Soccer
Dara Karnofsky and Kasey Wall.

Women’s Basketball
Brandi Foster and Melissa Richardson.

Men’s Golf
Eric Frazzetta.

Women’s Golf

Five California Collegiate Athletic Association schools received the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award. In addition to Chico State, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Stanislaus, Sonoma State and UC San Diego were honored.
