DAVIS – The Chico State women’s track team made an impressive showing Saturday during the inaugural UC Davis Classic, and it was a banner day for Katrina Rodriguez – the senior from Watsonville earned the Wildcats’ lone NCAA Championships provisional bid, winning the pole vault event with a jump of 12 feet, 3.5 inches. Eleven other Chico State women’s track athletes posted top five finishes in their events at Woody Wilson Track in Davis.
Several hundred athletes from four-year schools, community colleges and clubs, along with unattached competitors, took part in the UC Davis Classic, which took the place of the originally scheduled Hornet Invitational due to facility upgrade complications at Sacramento State.
In addition to Rodriguez winning the pole vault, Tori Tyler led a trio of Wildcats to victory in the 1,500-meter run, finishing first with a time of 4:42.38. Paige Henker came in second at 4:47.14, with Alia Gray right behind with a third place time of 4:47.62.
Anna Eicholtz posted a second place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.02. Aimee Rodgers and Katie Prucha came in third and fourth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles; Rodgers ran the event in 1:06.68, with Prucha coming in at 1:06.83.
The Chico State 4x400-meter relay team of Rodgers, Michelle Burley, Kelly Clancey and Sierra Owens finished third in the event with a time of 4:02.24, while Nicole Cooper posted a fifth place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 25.88 seconds.
