CHICO – Fresno State transfer Brian Seals is the final piece of what looks like a strong 2009-10 recruiting class put together by Chico State Head Coach Greg Clink and his staff. Seals, who will have one year of eligibility remaining, is a 6-foot-8 forward who started three games and appeared in 29 last season for the Bulldogs.
“Brian is a versatile player and a strong rebounder who will also challenge shots on the defensive end,” said Clink. “Brian will also create opportunities for us on the offensive end with his versatility and athleticism.”
Seals, who averaged 2.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and nearly a blocked shot per game as a junior at Fresno State last season, is a 2005 graduate of Sacramento’s Valley High School. Chico State alumni Fred Wilson, the head coach at Hiram Johnson High School in Sacramento, helped Seals work on his game for many years and recommended him to Clink.
Seals averaged a double-double as a sophomore at Cosumnes River College, where he was a two-year starter for Head Coach James Giacomazzi. As a prep senior at Valley High School, he notched 11 points and 10 rebounds per game and was honored with a spot on the Optimist All-Star Team.
He put up impressive numbers at Fresno State despite limited playing time, averaging 9.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.0 blocked shots per 40 minutes of action, while shooting 56-percent from the field.
Seals is the seventh player to commit to the Wildcats this spring. He joins 7-footer Jason Conrad, 6-foot-5 forward Amir Carraway, 6-foot-6 forward Terence Pellum, and guards Darren Nye, Sean Park, and Rashad Parker.
“We are extremely excited about our 2009 recruiting class,” said Clink. “All of the student-athletes we signed are very talented and are great young men. The addition of this class with the guys we have returning make us really excited about our future. We are really looking forward to the fall.”
