SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Thanks to morning showers Monday, the Chico State women’s golf team had to endure some wet conditions during the first day of the Sonoma State Women’s Invitational, and by the time the Wildcats sloshed their way to the clubhouse, the ’Cats found themselves in seventh place with a team score of 40-over par 328 after the first 18 holes played at Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club.
Megan Chang was the Wildcats’ top performer Monday, earning a share of 14th place in the Invitational with an 8-over par 80. Erin Sears shot a 41 on both the front and back nine to finish tied for 23rd at 10-over 82. Chico State’s Shelby Hooper and Tiara Wells were among a group of five golfers tied for 26th place with 11-over par 83’s, and Whitney Vau finished in a tie for 40th with a 19-over 91.
California Collegiate Athletic Association rival Cal State Monterey Bay leads the Invitational’s nine-school field with a team score of 23-over par 311, five strokes better than second place Academy of Art University. Sonoma State’s Brittany Carrera carded Monday’s best individual score with a 2-over 74.
