CHICO, Calif. – Chico State men’s basketball coach Greg Clink announced Friday that Chris Sharp, a 6-foot-6 center from Cabrillo College, has committed to Chico State. And he has big plans for the big man.
“Chris is a great addition to our program,” said Clink. “The thing that really excites us about him is that he is a proven winner and someone who has the ability to make an immediate impact on our program.”
Sharp averaged 13 points and 8.5 rebounds as a freshman while leading Cabrillo, which had never won a Coast Conference championship, to a share of the title. He averaged 14 points and six rebounds per game as a sophomore while leading his team to the outright conference crown. He earned Second Team All-Conference honors as a freshman and First Team honors as a sophomore while leading Cabrillo to a 20-4 Coast Conference mark and a pair of State Championship Tournament appearances over his two seasons there. He also helped anchor a defense that surrendered a conference-low 60.5 points per game last season.
“Chris brings a high level of toughness that we need in the low post,” said Clink. “He’s a very good scorer as well as a great post defender.”
Sharp prepped at Santa Cruz High School where he helped lead his team to the Division III state title as a junior. He was a two-time All-League selection and earned the NorCal Championships Sportsmanship award.
